The right to self-determination is one of the most fundamental human and citizenship rights. According to the hypothesis of this article, one of the foundations of the "right to self-determination of humans" in Islamic thought is the "natural dignity of humans." Humans are created with dignity; therefore, unlike other creatures, they determine their own destiny. The dignity of humans necessitates their freedom in choosing their way of life. Although God has laid out a roadmap for human life, He, having endowed humans with dignity, does not allow anyone to deprive them of their free will, even for the sake of guiding them to happiness. The prophets' role was merely to show the path of life through "warnings and glad tidings" and not to impose on humans. God's will concerning this dignified being is that they reach happiness based on their own will and conscious choice. The source of proof for this hypothesis is the most reliable source of understanding Islamic thought (the Holy Quran).
